Its Doom, you get you expect and there isn’t much more than can be added than that.
But if only to elaborate on that statement just for the sake of it, all I can really say is that it’s very good and is very very much over the top in every perceivable way which just makes it an even better experience and while leaning heavily on its old school 90s roots much like fellow Bethesda studio, MachineGames with their Wolfenstein reboot series.
Doom does have a story but it really is only there to give the levels the necessary amount of narrative required for Doom to have a story. The narrative, is however completely secondary in every way and can be ignored by the player completely if they chose to do so. Lots of exploration for unlockables, upgrades and secrets as well as finding data files, if you want to get a better understanding of the who, what and why. The only slight issue with the game is that two of the three boss fights aren’t in my opinion the best designed partly due to the enclosed arenas they occur in which I feel clashes the fast paced design of the gameplay but I’m probably very much in the minority on that.
Other than that very slight issue, it is basically as near perfect as you can get. Doom is a very good and enjoyable way to pass the time.
Doom would work very well as a game palate cleanser due its wonderfully simple gameplay loop and design philosophy which are both very easy to settle into after only a few miniutes.
